Tattoo Styles

Chicano Style And Realism

The Chicano style has such significant cultural influence that it has gone on to inspire other styles as well. It is steeped in the history of events such as the Mexican Revolution, Los Angeles low-riders, and Pachuco culture. Born behind bars, the aesthetic evolved from artists in prison who used the few materials they had to beautifully capture what they loved and missed on the outside. Usually featuring fine lines, black and grey tones, and wrapped up in Chicano culture, this genre of tattooing is absolutely captivating.

Traditional Tattoo

The traditional style, also called old school tattoo style, American traditional tattoo style, classic tattoo style, or Western traditional tattoo style, is known for its bold lines, bright colours, and iconic designs such as roses, anchors, and gorgeous lady heads. With heavy hitters in the history of traditional tattooing like Sailor Jerry, Don Ed Hardy, Bert Grimm, and Lyle Tuttle, this style is one of the most well-known and beloved aesthetics within the tattoo community. They are gorgeous from the outset, age beautifully, and are steeped in the history of tattooing. You can't really go wrong with a piece in this genre!

Illustrative Tattoo & Blackwork

Illustrative, because there are so many techniques and art movements that inspire it! From etching and engraving to abstract expressionism, and even fine line calligraphy, this tattoo style is extremely versatile. Many artists who work in this style blend their own aesthetic with it to create a whole new style of their own. However, as long as their tattoos look like they could belong on a piece of paper or a canvas hanging up in a gallery, you know it’s illustrative! Body art created using solely black ink can still be incredibly diverse. As you can imagine, a lot can be done with this versatile and striking colour.

Anime

Anime tattoos are inspired by Japanese animation and often feature bold colours, dramatic compositions, and intricate detailing. They can include:

• Character portraits: A detailed portrait of a beloved anime character
• Symbolic elements: Incorporating symbols and logos from anime series
• Anime quotes: A memorable quote from a favourite anime that conveys a profound life lesson or emotion
• Manga-inspired art: Bold lines, exaggerated expressions, and dynamic poses
• Crossover designs: Combining elements from different anime series to create a unique tattoo

Artwork & Flash

Flash tattoos are pre-designed tattoo images that customers can choose from the artist’s catalogue instead of having a custom design created for them. For newest flash check our Events & Guest Spots page.
